Top Rumours - Manchester United Transfer News: Latest on Morgan Schneiderlin

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to sell midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, after the player has flopped since signing from Southampton in 2015.

In an exclusive for the Sun, Daniel Cutts has quoted an unnamed United insider who stated Schneiderlin's time at Old Trafford appears as good as up: “Morgan’s future is very uncertain at the club. He’s barely played a game this season. He has played against Fenerbahce and Northampton, but injuries among other things have stopped his progress."

Schneiderlin has had trouble staying fit this season, with Cutts noting how the 26-year-old has made just four appearances, despite counting on getting more minutes during his second campaign with the Reds.

Interestingly, the insider appeared to claim how the arrival of Mourinho hasn't exactly helped Schneiderlin's cause: “He’s clearly very talented, but things haven’t really worked out for him since Jose came in.”

Mourinho succeeded Louis van Gaal, the man who signed Schneiderlin from the Saints for an initial fee of £24 million a year ago. He joined alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger, another midfielder who has struggled with injuries and been frozen out since Mourinho took charge.

At the time, United appeared to have pulled off a coup by beating Premier League rivals Arsenal to Schneiderlin's signature. The French enforcer had been heavily tipped to join the Gunners, per Tom Dutton of the London Evening Standard.

Things haven't worked out for Schneiderlin since, yet it's still a surprise he can't find a role on Mourinho's watch. After all, the former Saints ace boasts the tough tackling and defensive instincts Mourinho's pragmatic coaching often favours.

However, the Portuguese coach has chosen a host of players ahead of Schneiderlin to underpin midfield and protect United's back four. Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick have all been given starts, while Schneiderlin has been forgotten.

One problem might be Schneiderlin's natural lack of pace. He's also not the most forward-thinking in possession.

Still, it's easy to believe United won't be short of suitors if Mourinho commits to moving on from one of his predecessor's big-money buys.
