Presidency: FG set to create job opportunity for non-graduate, students and graduates

May 28, 2020 0

The Presidential Power Initiative (PPI):
a. Will deliver improved power supply nationwide, with attendant results in job creation, investor confidence, cost and ease of doing business and economic growth. #NigeriaPPI

b. Will provide training & capacity building for thousands of young Nigerians (non-graduates, students & graduates)

c. Will create economic opportunities for Nigerian engineering companies that will serve as local vendors for the provision of manpower and equipment.

Chancellor brought along with her a business delegation that included the Global CEO of Siemens. Nigeria and Germany agreed to explore cooperation in a number of areas, including Power.

The PPI journey started on August 31, 2018, when Chancellor Angela Merkel visited Nigeria and met with President Buhari.

“Our goal is simply to deliver electricity to Nigerian businesses and homes… Our intention is to ensure that our cooperation is structured under a Govt-to-Govt framework. No middlemen will be involved, so that we can achieve value for money for Nigerians.” — President

The President has also directed that to ensure value for money and preserve the integrity & transparency of the procurement process under the Govt-to-Govt framework, Siemens AG shall be solely responsible for nominating its EPC partners to perform all onshore works; NO middlemen.

... under this Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), as well as in undertaking an independent company valuation of the DisCos.

To ensure fairness and transparency of the intervention, the President has also directed that @NigeriaGov
engage the International Finance Corporation (‘IFC’) to assist in developing the commercial structure of the intervention...
President Buhari has directed the Ministries of @PowerMinNigeria and @FinMinNigeria, and the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) to conclude the engagement with Siemens AG to commence the pre-engineering & concessionary financing aspects of the Presidential Power Initiative.

The funding for the PPI will be secured under concessionary terms (up to 3-year moratorium and 12-year repayment at concessionary interest rates) through the German Euler Hermes cover, which @NigeriaGov
will on-lend as a convertible loan to the other shareholders in the DisCos.

President Buhari has approved the release of funding for the first part of Phase 1 of the PPI, to kick-off the pre-engineering and concession financing workstreams.

Over 1.4 million Nigerians’ have applied for 5,000 Civil Defence jobs

January 22, 2020 0

Reactions as 1.4 million Nigerians applied for 5,000 Civil Defence jobs
 - According to report, 1, 477, 042 million applications were received at the close of submission on September 7, 2019

- Thousands among them will be selected for the next stage

Over 1.4 million Nigerians scrambled for 5,000 job openings advertised by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Quoting some sources, Premium Times reports that 1, 477, 042 million applications were received through the Civil Defence’s website at the close of submission on September 7, 2019.
Thousands among these applicants would be selected to take part in the next stage of the recruitment process. Meanwhile, Nigerians on social media have reacted to the revelation.

According to Babatunde Jenfa, Nigerian youths should think outside the box.
He said the education curriculum needs complete overhaul while the dependency mentality should be totally discouraged.
He opined that entrepreneurial courses should be made compulsory for university education.

"Depending on government for jobs is not the way to go. Rather we should clamour for government to come up with policies and actions that create enabling environment for businesses to grow.

A state of emergency should be declared in the energy and health sectors immediately," he wrote on Facebook.

Here are other reactions:

Bahrbahrtunday Holarhniyee: That's to tell you the level of unemployment in Nigeria, there is need for the FGN to stand up to their responsibilities with the reasons why they are being elected.

Ibrahim Ibn Owuri: Rising unemployment is worse than boko haram menace... Govt as a matter of urgency ought to declare a state of emergency.... So many societal crimes cuts from this galloping rise of unemployment.

Cheerful Kachi: By the time our political elite minus like 4000 slot from that 5000 in the name of their own candidates . which I know most of their candidates may likely not have applied for the job. Invariably 1.4million people will be pursuing the remaining 1000 slot left. All I know is that it's well with Nigerians.

Dangote eyes 3,000 jobs with truck assembly plant

January 16, 2017 0

Aliko Dangote, Nigerian entrepreneur, aims to create 3,000 jobs with the establishment of a truck assembly plant in Ikeja, Lagos.

The plant is the result of a partnership between the Dangote group and Sinotruck, a Chinese heavy-duty truck company.

“The decision to go into the truck assembly plant project was informed by the need to conserve forex in view of the current economic recession.

“The deal, worth $100 million, expected to have an assembly plant that will produce 10,000 trucks per year, was signed in May 2014, in China.

“According to the deal agreement, the plant is 60 per cent owned by Dangote Group, trading under Dangote Industries Limited, leaving Sinotruck with the remaining 40 per cent equity stake,” the statement by the firm explained.

Anthony Chiejina, chief corporate communication officer of Dangote Group, confirmed the project had taken off and that when fully operational, the nation would be spared the forex expense of importing the heavy-duty vehicles.

He explained there would be room for the expansion of the project in years to come, saying: “As it meets the national truck demand, it will explore exportation to neighbouring countries to generate foreign exchange for the nation.”

Consequently, Dangote Agro Sacks Limited, which occupied the Oba-AkranOgba premises of the former Nigerian Textile Mills, until recently, has been relocated closer to the group’s major operational hubs, particularly the cement plants in Obajana, Kogi State and Ibeshe, Ogun State.
