THE ongoing overhaul of the security architecture at the Presidential Villa continued on Tuesday with the redeployment of eight Assistant Superintendents of Police from the presidential security team.
The ASPs, who had been serving in the State House since 2015, were posted out of the Villa last Friday. However, the signal confirming their redeployment was released on Tuesday.
ACCORDING TO PUNCH learnt that the officers had been demobilised from the Mobile Police Force and posted to unidentified state commands.
A source said, “Eight Assistant Superintendents of Police have been posted out of the Presidential Villa; they were part of the Mobile Police Force in the Villa. Their redeployment was confirmed on Tuesday via a signal.”
Corroborating the development, another source added, “The officers have been ‘demoped’ and transferred; some to Imo and other states, but they have not been released yet.”
Our correspondent had in an exclusive report on Friday, broke the news of the redeployment of 20 presidential bodyguards following the shooting at the State House penultimate Thursday.
The bodyguards, who were drawn from the Department of State Services and National Intelligence Agency, were removed for their alleged failure to manage the situation, which led to the firing of gunshots within the villa precincts.
