Morgan Freeman is lending his powerful voice to the fight against cancer.
The Oscar winner, who is the executive producer of the cancer documentary The C Word, is also the face of a new PSA from Stand Up to Cancer, which celebrates the unsung heroes who make cancer research possible.
“I am honored to join Stand Up to Cancer and Genentech in this extremely important PSA campaign,” said Freeman in a statement. “As the executive producer of The C Word documentary, it’s important to me to help raise awareness of this disease and the progress being made. I hope through this PSA and also through The C Word that I can help change the way people view cancer.”
The new PSA, titled Be The Breakthrough, is a multi-faceted effort honoring the people behind progress in cancer research: the patients who participate in clinical trials, the scientists and doctors who make medical advances and improve care, and the people who provide support to those living with cancer.
Freeman’s other cancer-related project, The C Word, explores what people can do to prevent getting cancer, given the amazing statistic that 70% of cancer deaths are preventable.
The films follows celebrated French neuroscientist and cancer revolutionary Dr. David Servan-Schreiber, and the documentary’s own director, and cancer survivor Meghan L. O’Hara, on their journey from diagnosis to wellness. Later, the two team up to explore the hidden science of cancer research and why people resist making healthy lifestyle changes.
